Interior Design Trends for 2024
We always love discovering new home interior trends each year and we are pleased to discover an exciting range of new and returning trends coming back for 2024.
We have scouted out a range of trends we have taken inspiration from, however we always encourage you to decorate and adapt your style in a way that suits you and makes you happy!
It has been refreshing to see that 2024 trend predictions are not only encouraging bold new styles, but are also embracing design that will stand the test of time. A lot of the trends we have focussed on in this blog can be easily adopted in the form of accessories, textures and colour palettes. We are all for sustainable and budget friendly home styling, so we hope this blog inspires you to bring a new perspective and utilise pieces you may already own in a new way.
Arches
Arches have been prominent in architectural design for many years and instantly add character to a space, whilst also framing aspects of a room or serving as a focal point.
Along with the continuation of the ‘curve trend’, arches have remained popular due to their timeless appeal and old-world charm. Arches can be incorporated in many different styles or sizes, it doesn’t just have to be structural. Think about adding character through sculptural elements such as vases or ceramic artworks, or even through added arched panelling around a gallery wall or in the form of a floor to ceiling free standing mirror!
We are loving these arched shelves which seem to be making their way around social media, we are particularly inspired by this up-cycled Ikea hack Rach Martino (dreamloftstudios on Instagram) used to create these beautiful floor to ceiling display units. Tiling
We have seen lots of interior design pages on Instagram experimenting with tiles in a new way, whether that is tiling a whole space or mixing and matching with different patterns and textures in one room. Caroline Cecil points out what styles we can look out for in her blog here.
‘Checkerboard and geometric prints are forecasted for both fashion and interiors, with the classic marble checkerboard floor getting a scale update. Lookout for oversized and small scale versions growing in popularity'.’
The unique, irregular style of Zellige tiles (handcrafted glazed tiles that originated in Morocco) are also rising in popularity.
Quiet Luxury
This trend is focussed on creating a calming space that you can retreat to and move away from the everyday stresses of life. The word luxury doesn’t have to mean expensive, this trend can easily be adopted with thought out elements such as soft furnishings (rugs, cushions, throws), artwork, candles or lighting. The aim is to encourage an appreciation for living well.
Maximalism
As minimalism fades into the background and we wave goodbye to cold, all-white rooms, maximalism will make its way back into the forefront. 2024, similarly to this year, will focus on warmer tones, comfort and coziness. The new take on maximalism will encourage you to embrace those colours and textures that are spirit lifting, following on from the dopamine decor trend that allows you to decorate in a way that makes you happy!
Interior designer Alice Leigh shares her take on the new Maximalism in this blog extract written by Ashley Chalmers.
‘That’s not to say that we can’t incorporate neutral elements into a room—but it's about balance, warmth, and offsetting bold colours with gentle ones. 2024’s maximalism is also about how you mix and match to express your unique style, think about pairing geometric shapes, textures, metals, and more throughout your home.’
Earthy Tones
We are seeing a lot of nature-inspired tones taking over the interior design world in 2024, encouraging a warm, welcoming and relaxed atmosphere.
According to the Dulux Colour Forecast 2024;
‘This year’s colour trends reflect an inner desire for positivity and spaces that nurture within our homes. The new trends feature warm colours with a yellow inference, pink-influenced clay hues and reddy browns, olive green and accents of pale blue and zesty yellow.’
In particular, we have noticed a growing poularity for the sandy colour scheme, moving away for the usual beige tones and adding a twist with a warm orange or yellow undertone. Although yellow has been a prominent colour for a couple of years, this is now being toned back for a softer atmosphere as Roddy Clarke explains in his blog:
‘Yellow has been especially popular in interiors for a couple of years but we’re seeing a tone change. Initially, deeper, more earthy ochre, mustard and turmeric hues seemed to be seen everywhere (especially on seating) but for 2023 and 2024, that has been dialled down to a straw or buttermilk yellow. It’s an easy, gentle palette to live with and a comforting one – especially on walls or kitchen units in dark, grey winters.’
Stripes
Stripes, along with checkerboard are dominating the pattern trend for 2024, in the form of striped wallpaper, striped accessories, and striped furniture. Stripes can suit a multitude of interior styles, whether that is the farm house trend with a smaller scale ticking stripe pattern, or bold, larger scale stripes to compliment a modern, eclectic home.
As mentioned in the maximalism section above, these bold statements can be accompanied with a softer colour palette for a more balanced impact.
See below some ways you can create a unique statement with some of our handcrafted furniture. Our Coffee Tables, Footstools and Ottomans make for stylish, characterful pieces that will add a pop of colour or bold pattern to any room.
Sustainability
In recent years we have seen a rise in the desire to shop second-hand or vintage for our fashion, sustainability is now also a focus in the design industry for 2024.
People are encouraged to search for reclaimed materials or to take their hand to upcycling, opposed to buying mass produced furniture or decor. It is predicted there will be an ever-growing focus on sustainable practice and environmentally friendly materials in 2024, as explained in this blog extract by Ohra Studio.
‘Designers are increasingly incorporating natural and recycled materials, such as reclaimed wood, organic fabrics, and recycled glass, into their creations. Energy-efficient solutions like solar panels and smart thermostats help reduce environmental impact while cutting down on utility bills. Biophilic design, which integrates elements of nature into the built environment, offers a refreshing and soothing ambiance, promoting well-being and connectivity with the outdoors.’
Cosmic Motifs
A new motif for 2024 is on the horizon according to House & Garden, a refreshing step away from patterns that have been on the interior design scene in previous years.
‘After a few years of shell-mania followed by a flirtation with fruit and vegetables, it feels like we’re moving away from the sea and the ground with symbols more likely to appear in a set of tarot cards. Sun and moon shapes and motifs are especially popular – appearing everywhere from side tables to mirrors and printed textiles.’
We absolutely love this marble and antique brass Sunburst Side Table by Anthropologie.
