Ways to Embrace Autumn in Your Home

  1. Welcome The Outdoors In

We love a statement wallpaper at Sparrow & Plumb and this beautiful forestscape by Graham and Brown perfectly encapsulates the feeling of being nature.

“Welcome to New Eden, proudly our Wallpaper of the Year for 2024. This dramatic forestscape is full of hidden treasures, pops of colour emerge through the design with yellow, orange and pink tones complimenting the emerald tree canopies.”

2. 70’s Revival

According to Johnlewis.com, sales of retro prints, patterns and furniture are skyrocketing. Interior Designer and Head of Creative at Swyft Kelly Collins, describes this revival as 'an evolution of the mid-century modern craze' that has dominated the industry for the past few years. Rich, earthy tones like terracotta and warm browns, with a mix of layered textures and big patterns, is key to this trend -https://www.housebeautiful.com/uk/decorate/looks/a42252171/1970s-influential-decade-interior-design/

At Sparrow & Plumb we have also noticed our customers have been loving our retro print fabrics for their furniture orders recently; from large scale abstract velvets to geometric weaves. We have compiled some of our retro best sellers in the photos below.

Inspired by the 70s Revival Trend, we have put together a moodboard of ways to style our retro furniture and soft furnishings. We hope it inspires some interesting pattern clashing and pops of colour that you can incorporate into your own home this autumn.

3. Bouclé Is Back!

Bouclé has been dominant in the interior design world since the mid century, however there is no sign of this fabric losing popularity any time soon. An international pandemic and the need to bring comfort into our homes, paired with the growing interest in mid-century furniture, sparked the resurgence of bouclé in 2019.

French for 'curl' or 'loop', bouclé is made for snuggling up on during colder months and couldn’t be more perfect for cosy season!

4. Introduce Warm Colours

As seen in the form of retro patterns, curved furniture and bouclé textures, the 1970s have also been influential in paint colours this year. From warm oranges and terracotta, to soft caramel hues, these autumnal colours instantly create a relaxed, welcoming atmosphere.

Duluxe are embracing the honey hues this season with their shade of the year ‘Wild Wonder’ – a positive, glowing tone, inspired by the natural world.

These paint colours by Lick are also giving us all the cosy feels, with a focus on earthy, warm tones for a cocooning effect.

5. Abstract Patterns

For a contemporary, elegant way of embracing autumn into your home, experiment with abstract patterns. Seamlessly tie your interiors together with a gallery wall or with carefully picked out accessories.

Pattern clashing, or bringing in multiple patterned elements can seem daunting; but by incorporating colours from the same palette, you can bring cohesion to a room whilst also creating an eye-catching focal point.

We have put together some examples of pattern and texture mixing in the below moodboard. Velvet sofas will never go out of style, and we brought contrast to this soft fabric with the structured gold furniture, which adds a luxe finish.
