Our Sustainable Commitment

As a small business operating in the textile industry we understand the importance of our role in the market. The impact that the textile and fashion industry have on the environment is huge. According to UN estimates, by 2050 the world’s population will need the natural resources of three planets to maintain its current lifestyle.

This means continuing as we are is simply not an option. We must take accountability for our environmental footprint, by adopting responsible practices and creating innovative solutions to help minimise our effects on the world around us.

“As one of the world’s most important industrial drivers, the textile sector must not only recognize its responsibility to adopt ethical and responsible practices but must also see it as a driver of its own business and growth. Business sustainability is far from being a whim or a passing trend. The modern world requires us to think systematically, take responsibility for our actions, and innovate when creating and doing business.” - www.textilejourney.com

Since our launch of Sparrow & Plumb in 2020 we have continued to hold sustainability at the heart of ethos. Our aspiration has always been to create beautiful, unique furniture that will transform your living space. From sourcing local materials, to our zero-waste pledge, we will continue to be as sustainable as possible and we are constantly researching new ways in which to do this. Please read on to see the key responsibilities we uphold to continue our commitment to sustainability.

We make furniture that lasts

At Sparrow & Plumb we pride ourselves on creating furniture that will sustain the test of time in your home. Each high-quality piece is handcrafted with care and precision with the aim to be admired and enjoyed for many years.

Everything is handmade in Somerset, England

Every piece of furniture we create is handcrafted by our small team in our Somerset Workshop. We also package and dispatch all of our items from our workshop. Each stage of our production process takes place in Britain which diminishes any overseas travel.

Our Zero Waste Ethos

At Sparrow & Plumb our aim is minimise as much of our fabric waste as possible. This even includes our pattern cutting, we create our fabric cases with accuracy to ensure the material is used consciously for each item. All of our fabric remnants are re-purposed, we do this through our Zero-Waste Scrunchies, Fabric Bundles and Cosmetic Bags. We also have a blog post on how to create your own Zer0-Waste Hair Scrunchie, you can read this here.

We operate on a made-to-order basis

All of our products are created on a made-to-order system, therefore we only order in our materials per customer order. This means we are not left with any outstanding stock which minimises waste, as we only use what we need for each order.

We hope that we can continue to create beautiful items for your home which can be treasured for many years, our environmental impact will stay at the forefront of our ethos as we grow.
