The Harris Tweed Story

“From time immemorial, the inhabitants of the Outer Hebrides of Scotland have woven a beautiful and intricate cloth the world knows simply as Harris Tweed.” - Harris Tweed Authority

Harris Tweed has a long established reputation for it’s durable, quality cloth. It’s remarkable that no part of the process to produce the fabric takes place elsewhere, the remote islands of the Outer Hebrides is home to every weaver, dyer, blender, carder, spinner, warper, finisher and inspector of Harris Tweed cloth. For generations these islands have produced the special cloth of Harris Tweed.

From the remote islands of the Outer Hebrides, Harris Tweed cloth is now world renowned. With its cloth being used for endless purposes, from traditional men’s jackets to stylish interiors. From the small Scottish islands the cloth is exported to over 50 countries, it can be found in Europe, North America to Brazil, Russia, India and China.

A Fabric for life - Harris Tweed is a high performance durable fabric, this requires minimal laundering so it is long lasting and fully biodegradable.

Minimising environmental impact - All Harris Tweed mills comply with UK legislative standards, using only 100% wool which is a natural, biodegradable fibre.
