A lick of paint: Brighten up your home decor

Colour plays such an important role in our interior, it can change the whole atmosphere of a room and different colours can even affect our mood. We have put together the key colour trends for your interior this year, with consideration of how to achieve these colour schemes in your own home. Be inspired by our moodboards below, featuring everything you need to reinvent your interior with a splash of colour.

“As we move into thinking about pairing colours in 2022, I feel we might look beyond the nostalgic tones of the past year and be attracted to colours that are full of excitement, but somehow familiar,” says Joa Studholme, colour curator, Farrow & Ball. - Homes & Gardens

YELLOW

Firstly starting with sunny Yellow, the colour that evokes feelings of sunshine, warmth and happiness. Yellow room’s can inspire optimism and joy, creating a comforting and relaxing summery feel. We particularly liked Farrow & Ball’s stunning shade of ‘India Yellow’ Paint, it has been described by them as a “Strong and moody yellow,” this distinctive shade will bring cheerfulness to any room. However, Farrow & Ball have advised to use this paint in moderation for small rooms, as its moody intensity may be a little overwhelming. We have put together some of our favourite yellow pieces which are guaranteed to brighten up any living space.

GREEN

Our desire to be connected with the outdoors and nature is ever growing, the past year has strengthened this even further and elevated green to be the decorating colour of choice. For a versatile and serene effect we have chosen Graham & Brown’s ‘Greenhouse Green’ Paint, this will bring positivity and calmness to your interior, working perfectly in a lounge or bedroom.

“Glasshouse is a luxurious green which will add endless depth when included in any colour palette. The blue undertones help give this hue a subtle freshness, going hand in hand with the “outside in” design trend which places emphasis on breathing life into your home and blurring the line between interior and exterior design as we become more eco conscious.” - Graham & Brown

PINK

Pink in the home can bring a sense of femininity and softness to your living space. It has always been a popular colour in the world of interiors and has now even been described as the ‘new neutral’. We have picked the ever-popular ‘Nancy’s Blushes’ Paint by Farrow & Ball which creates a perfectly pretty backdrop presenting serenity and interest, without becoming too overwhelming.

“The uplifting shade of Nancy’s Blushes certainly grabs your attention when paired with a bright white, but can create quietly charming interiors when contrasted with a soft neutral in shady rooms. Something altogether more graphic happens when counterbalanced with St Giles Blue.” - Farrow & Ball

BLUE

The use of soft blue in interior design has the quality of being soothing and calming, almost echoing the sense of a breath of fresh air. We have chosen the ‘Bright Skies’ Blue Paint by Dulux, who have announced this as their colour of the year 2022, describing it as follows; “Bright Skies is a light, airy and optimistic blue that’s good for the soul. It promises to open up and revitalise your home.” - Dulux. This reassuring soft blue has a refreshing, serene quality which can transform your home.

“This airy and fresh shade breathes new life into any space," says Kayleigh. “This hue is both uplifting and light, while simultaneously being soothing, familiar, and apt for a joyous safe haven. This selection by Dulux was influenced by the aftermath of the pandemic, with many of us craving freedom, expansion, and a return to nature.” - Dulux, Country Living
